Demand for seats at Duke Ellington School of the Arts continues to increase. We are a truly diverse school community representing all 8 Wards and an array of cultural backgrounds.

Enrollment

Demand has steadily increased over the last several years. FY22 enrollment is projected to exceed 600 students.
 

Students by Ward

Duke Ellington School of the Arts serves children from all 8 Wards of the District of Columbia. During school year 2020-21, approximately 60% come from Wards 5 to 8; another 32% from Wards 1 to 4; and 8% come from outside the District.

About SHADE

 

The School Home Association of Duke Ellington (SHADE) supports the educational and artistic mission of the students, faculty and administration of Washington, DC’s Duke Ellington School of the Arts (DESA). It serves as a communication, action and advocacy organization that unifies the DESA community to address issues of importance to the school and cultivate productive scholar-artists. SHADE is an all-volunteer organization led by Ellington family and community members.
